48-volt-LV DC-DC converter modules provide power flow between the 48-volt (medium voltage) and 12-volt (low voltage) power nets on mild hybrids (MHEV). The end-user does not notice these modules, but they provide essential functionality, as MHEVs do not have a traditional 12-volt power net alternator; instead, they have a 48-volt starter generator. The 48-volt starter generator provides the ability to charge both the 48-volt battery and the 12-volt battery by using the DC-DC module. The DC-DC converter module can be bidirectional, allowing power flow in either direction for specific use cases. Power levels from 1 kW to 3 kW are common, with systems requiring components rated at 40 volts on the 12-volt power net and 80 volts or more on the 48-volt power net of the converter. Our discrete MOSFETs and Automotive Power Modules (APM) allow designers to scale their solutions while providing maximum power density and high reliability for DC-DC converter modules used in MHEVs.
